Permanent Residency in Thailand
Written by Administrator
permanent ResidencyYou can apply for permanent residency in Thailand if you have lived in Thailand and held a non-immigrant visa for at least three years. You will be required to show similar documents to the ones used to apply for the non-immigrant visa and also sit for an interview which includes a test of your ability to speak, read, and write Thai.

The cost of permanent residency is 191,400 baht or 95,700 baht if you are married to a Thai citizen.  This is clearly a rather expensive alternative to a retirement visa, which, at 1,900 baht for 40 years amounts to only 76,000 baht.  There is a quota of 100 persons per year from each nation¬ality for permanent residence status.

Thai Citizenship

It is possible for a foreigner to gain Thai citizenship.  The application is similar to permanent residence, but a higher level of spoken and written Thai is required.  It is not necessary to be married to a Thai citizen.
